The Complete Vocalises for Trombone
Bordogni/Mulcahy
Michael Mulcahy, trombonist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has edited and annotated this exciting new edition of the Bordogni masterpieces. 21st century knowledge is applied to the timeless musical principals of Bordogni. The result is a book that will be the cornerstone of every trombonist's library.
The Bordogni Vocalises (or “Melodious Etudes”) have been an essential part of every successful trombonist’s repertoire for generations. The ingenious progressivity in musical and technical content has never been equaled. The value and importance of Bordogni’s Vocalises for trombonists remains unchanged.
Today the demands placed upon trombone players are greater than in the past. Instruments have been improved; the body of knowledge has increased with respect to technical skills. It is apparent that while the core of Bordogni’s work remains solid and relevant, additional information—updated to 21st century brass playing requirements—is needed.
This new edition of the Vocalises corrects errors present in the earlier editions. New concepts of performance technique are discussed and applied to the music. The more advanced Vocalises are presented in tenor or alto clef. Mr. Mulcahy offers several complete interpretations of etudes. In short, this is a new Bordogni.
Encore is honored to present Michael Mulcahy’s new edition of the Bordogni Complete Vocalises.

Michael Mulcahy was appointed to the Chicago Symphony in 1989 by Sir Georg Solti. He had previously been Solo Trombone of the Cologne Radio Symphony and Principal Trombone of the Melbourne Symphony and Tasmanian Symphony.
